Week 3 COVID-19: Principal’s Update

April 9th 2020

Dear Connaught Families,

Thank you for your continued support and flexibility, as we navigate this new journey together. I know that many great things happened this week- phone calls, video calls, video lessons, spring break slideshows, collaborative reading, and so much more. Each week, teachers will send home a weekly learning plan. The weekly learning plan will outline the learning opportunities for the week. It is important to remember that each family’s learning journey will look different. Please do what is best for your child, and you. When your child is at school we often have to adjust, change and pivot our plans. Please know that you have our support to do the same thing at home. Your relationship and connection with your child during this time will be far more important than any learning that happens. If you are struggling, feeling frustrated, or just not sure what to do please, please reach out to me. I am here to problem solve, support and reassure you that it will be ok.

For this week, I’d like to share the following update:

 April 14th – April 17th:

  • The health and safety of our community of staff, students, and families is the top priority and we ask that you not visit the school at this time. If you wish to come pick up some essential belongings please contact me or your child’s teacher to make an appointment.
  • Your child’s teacher will be sending home a foundational weekly learning plan. Each week your child’s teacher will send home a weekly learning plan, please do the parts that work for your family. If you have any questions please reach out to your child’s teacher.
  • Please review online safety and etiquette with your child. It is important to remind them that the expectations on online platforms are the same as at the school (kind words, responsible behaviour, a focus on learning). Please see the attached document for information around student online expectations. Student Guidelines for Virtual Classroom Participation.pdf
  • I have read a new, great story. To share it with your child/ren, you can go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMuUy-uxE6k

I have known that I wanted to be in Education since my first day of Kindergarten. I went into education because I love to connect and build meaningful relationships with people. One of my fears coming back to school was that the beautiful connections at Connaught would be lost. But, I couldn’t have been more wrong. I want to thank all of you for embracing this journey with us and for allowing us the privilege of connecting with all of you and your children. We have such a unique opportunity to build something new together. Thank you for supporting all of the staff at Connaught, and collaborating with us, as we create a wonderful, different learning environment.

Thinking of all of you,
