Week 4 Covid-19: Principal’s Update
April 17th 2020
Dear Connaught Families,
Throughout this week I have been “visiting” the virtual classrooms and exploring what your children, and you, see when you login. I cannot tell you how much I have enjoyed reading the children’s comments, looking at their projects and seeing their engagement. Visiting the virtual classrooms has been a great reminder to me of how much we can learn from children. They are approaching their remote learning with flexibility, playfulness and a focus on supporting, and celebrating, each other. All characteristics that make the world a better place.
We have been working hard with the school district since coming back from spring break to begin remote learning and to provide supports to families in need.
Please do not hesitate to reach out at anytime, if:
-the technology in your home is not meeting your needs (ex. too many people need the one computer, the iPad isn’t working for Google classroom, the laptop you were using decides to die)
-your family needs meal support
-you are an Essential Service Worker who needs childcare and I have not already connected with you
For this week, I’d like to share the following update:
April 20th – April 24th:
- Your child’s teacher will be sending home a weekly learning plan. Please do the parts that work for your family. If you have any questions please reach out to your child’s teacher.
- On Monday, we will be sending home information about package pick-ups that will happen on Thursday/Friday. The packages are meant to provide your child with some familiar learning materials, but pick-up is optional. There will be more detailed information in the email on Monday.
- I have read a new, great story. To share it with your child/ren, you can go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50eL3ozgUoM&t=
- The health and safety of our community of staff, students, and families is the top priority and we ask that you not visit the school at this time. If you wish to come pick up some essential belongings please contact me or your child’s teacher to make an appointment.
As always, please feel to reach out to me anytime. I know that there is still a lot of new and we are all adjusting. Remember, that the teachers are posting learning opportunities. As with any opportunity, please do what is best for you and your child. You know your child best and now more than ever it is important to honour that each child’s needs are different.
Thinking of all of you,
Jennifer Scorda (604-517-6010/ firstname.lastname@example.org)
